PostSubject: Strategy for Earnings Season - need help!   Mon Oct 05, 2009 8:59 pm

Im trying to figure out my strategy of how to play earnings season. I wanted to know what are the biggest movers of the Dow. And also could someone explain how the Dow Index is calculated. I understand that it is price weighted, but how or why does the biggest move the index as they do?

Hey Snapman,
Sorry i've been kept busy lately and now i can only give you a quick answer.
Actually the Dow is just composed with 1 share of each of its 30 components. Basically the higher the price, the higher the weight...
I received recently decent research on the earnings, will send to you.
See you then.

Thank for the quick response despite your busy schedule. I actually found out that data last night about the price weighting while doing some research. I was reading some NBER papers on inherent weaknesses of the DOW. Actually P_Ambrus and I are doing some of our own research, When we come up with something solid Ill let you know. Looking forward to see what you got.
